Hello and Happy New Year! How have the first 31 days of 2023 been treating you? Have you been sticking to your healthy habits and righteous resolutions? Building upon the promises made to oneself at the beginning of another twelve months isn't always easy to do, especially when less than convenient winter weather makes getting to the gym sound and feel scarcely appealing. After all, pulling on the boots, and the gloves, and the hat, along with zipping up the eight year old jacket, are all irksome extra steps towards eventually making it to your vehicle... where you then need to treat the freezing jalopy to a warm-up while brushing it off. But wait, you're not finished yet. Now you're entitled to the pulse-pounding privilege of shovelling the driveway. Geez, are we tired yet? Nothing about exercise is truly convenient, and that rings doubly true when the outdoors are bleak and brisk, but hang in there, summer's on its way. All of the annoyance you feel while preparing to visit the gym will wash away as soon as you start pumping and pressing, making the drive back home one that's accompanied by sentiments of pride and satisfaction. Maintaining the motivation to sweat and strain throughout the winter can be a hard sale to pitch, but placing your faith in consistency will have you reaping solstitial reward by April's end. You've no doubt heard it before, but consistency is key, particularly when it comes to developing greater strength and hypertrophy. That collection of muscles you worked so diligently to construct over last summer's balmy afternoons won't have a decent reason to stick around if you don't give them their weekly once over, so as hard as it may be to slog it to the gym for that one hour battle with Brother Iron and Sister Steel, you know you need to confront 'em. You must. You will! You owe it to yourself to stay consistent, if for no other reason than to avoid dragging yourself through this same process, year in and year out. Fashion your workouts to keep moving in a progressive direction as opposed to repeating the exact same routines you performed twelve months ago. Squats, presses, and pull-downs... they're all waiting for you in the metal mansion, and they'll pay you back in fantastic dividends as you strut your healthy and impressive physique around when the heat makes its long awaited return. You may not always be motivated, but stay consistent. Until next time, be well and be happy.
